Marlene Mautner (*1989) is an artist who works across various media, including photography, time-based media and digital art. Her work has been shown in spaces like Belvedere21 and the MAK, and is also part of the Universalmuseum Joanneum’s collection.

With a background in Applied Photography and Experimental Game Cultures from the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, Mautner’s projects often blend scientific facts with fictional elements. She’s interested in how theoretical ideas and technology come together to create new forms of artistic expression.

Her practice ranges from VR installations and photography to designing custom controllers for interactive game installations. A recurring theme in her work is the connection between different worlds—whether that’s combining physical and digital spaces or bringing together various agents and actors (both real and virtual). Mautner’s work encourages viewers to rethink how they engage with technology and our environment, and the stories we create around them.

Through her installations, she builds spaces that allow the audience to step into new perspectives, exploring the intersection of reality, fiction, and interactivity.
